LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER BEGINS CINEMATIC 3D DOCUMENTATION OF FRISCO LANDMARKS

FRISCO, TX, August 22, 2008:  Frisco portrait studio, Ahh! Photography, began posting cinematic, user-controlled, 3D images of local landmarks, starting with Frisco Square using Microsoft Live Labs ™ Photosynth ™ technology, professional DSLR photographs, and a good old-fashioned eye for detail. The series, when completed sometime in September, will provide free online self-guided virtual tours of locations of historic, cultural, or popular interest to the public via the internet. Access is provided immediately on the Ahh! Photography website as well as searchable on the Photosynth ™ website.

“The technology has been in development at Live Labs since 2006, when Microsoft acquired it from Seadragon. It was previewed using a set of National Geographic images from a few famous locations. We are simply turning our critical eye and our studio cameras on Frisco and fording the rocky waves of first adopters of the tool. Live Labs makes it look easy, yet it is still being worked on and requires a significant time investment to achieve 100% synthy,” says Peter Horn, Senior Photographer at Ahh! Photography. Synthy is a newly coined term which indicates whether all images in an image set are completely tied together by the Photosynth ™ engines.

“We’re using studio grade equipment and techniques because the city deserves something more than a point and shoot presentation to the world. The virtual spaces will allow residents to share our community with family and friends, give prospective residents a ‘feel’ for the community, and keep past residents connected.”

There is no fee collected by the sites nor has the city commissioned the studio for the project. “This frees us to make our own choices of what is photographic, important, or interesting. Just like casual shutterbugs, we use our city’s locations in our portraiture. So why not return the favor and feature them? It’s also our way of letting residents know we enjoy what we do, and that is putting the Ahh! in Photography”.

There will be no professional models in the virtual spaces; however, if area high school seniors wish to be included in a session, they may contact the studio to see if any landmarks have not already started production. The studio website is www.Ahh-Photography.com.

“We started the project on its own merit when the Photosynth ™ site first opened in August. But we didn’t expect to start getting hits in the first few days on our site from around the country, Germany, the UK, France, and even Aruba”.

Ahh! Photography is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, Texas Professional Photographers Association, and National Association of Photoshop Professionals.
